LEJOG cycling team’s Guinness World Record attempt in support of Jigsaw!

On 26th June 2021, a team of brave cyclists will aim to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest cycling journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) in a relay team format.
The team of 11 will be aiming to complete the 1,325km distance in under 40 hours, and have chosen to raise money and awareness for child bereavement charity, Jigsaw (South East) while taking on this epic challenge.
With an early start of 5am at Lands’ End in Cornwall on the Saturday, the relay team will aim to reach the most northerly point of the UK, John O’Groats, Scotland, by 9pm the next day. Breaking into 2 groups, the riders will take it in turns to sprint for one hour, averaging a lightning speed of over 35kmph before handing over the GPS baton to the next rider.
Adam Hinds, organiser of the world record attempt said: “The team have been training ferociously for the last 10 months, burning rubber 7 days a week in preparation for the relay sprint. An endurance event of this magnitude is not only physically taxing, but also mentally and logistically demanding.”
Steven Price, LEJOG team member told us: “We chose to support Jigsaw (South East) after learning of the incredible work they’ve been doing in our community with bereaved children. With so many more children and young people bereaved of a parent or family member due to the pandemic, we wanted to help support this charity keep their vital services going and ensure every child coping with the devastating loss of a loved one, has the support they need.”
Sophie Bewley, Jigsaw’s Fundraising Lead said: “We couldn’t be more grateful for the support of the LEJOG team, whose fundraising efforts will be a huge support to the charity as we continue to see an increasing number of bereaved children needing our support. Our income was hit heavily by the impact of the pandemic, but we strive to continue to be there for every child that needs us. With the support of fundraisers like this incredible team, we know we can continue to do so.”
