Fundraising is often seen as the act of collecting donations, but for me, it is so much more than that. My journey into the world of fundraising began with the Bournemouth 10k in memory of my sister in Law who died leaving my two nephews without their mum.  I saw the support offered by Jigsaw South East and had a desire to raise money to support the charities work and make a difference in people’s lives. What started as a way to contribute to causes I care about has become a deeply fulfilling part of my life. It’s not just about raising money; now as a Fundraising Manager it’s about connecting with others, creating lasting change, and pushing myself to new limits. 

The “Why” Behind My Fundraising Journey

I am privileged each and every day to see the tangible impact fundraising has on my community. Whether it is raising money with a local school on a sparkle day, supporting bereaved children by donating books or memory boxes, or contributing to causes like our social events for children, young people and their families, I know that each effort makes a difference. I want to be part of that process, to help create opportunities and support those in need.  I get so much more from working at Jigsaw than you could imagine. 

Over time, I have found that my involvement in fundraising has opened doors to incredible experiences and connections. The relationships I build with the people I meet—donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries—are some of the most meaningful I’ve ever had. Fundraising has brought me closer to the people and the cause I care about, and I have realised that it is as much about building a community as it is about raising funds. 

The Thrill of Challenge Events

One of the things I love most about fundraising is participating in and watching our supporters take part in challenge events, particularly running events. These events combine two things I’m passionate about; personal growth and supporting causes that matter. Running, especially for charity, is an experience that allows me to push myself physically and mentally while making a real difference and I have witnessed this so many times with the supporters that take on challenge events for us. 

There’s something exhilarating about training for a race, knowing that every step I take is helping to raise awareness and funds for a Jigsaw South East. The challenge pushes me to step outside my comfort zone, which is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about crossing the finish line; it’s about the journey, the discipline, and the feeling of accomplishment. And when you add the fundraising element, it takes on an even greater meaning. Each mile that is run for Jigsaw represents the support of generous donors and the hope we’re creating for those families we support. 

What I Get Back From Fundraising

Fundraising has given me the opportunity to grow personally. Through each event I organise or take part in, I’ve learned personally resilience, patience, and the power of community. Seeing how generous people can be and how much they want to support positive change is truly inspiring. It reminds me that there’s so much good in the world, and being part of that is a privilege. 

In the end, fundraising isn’t just something I do; it’s a part of who I am. The experiences, the challenges, and the relationships I’ve built have enriched my life in ways I never expected. It’s more than a responsibility; it’s a passion that continues to push me forward, both as an individual and in my role as the fundraising manager at Jigsaw South East when supporters step forward and I support them in turn, on their fundraising journey. 

London Marathon 2025

I was lucky enough to have won a ballot place for the London Marathon 2025 and I took on 26.2 miles, plus over 300 training miles, to show my support for the families Jigsaw South East supports. I hope this inspires you to take on your own challenge.
