Why Run for us?
In the UK, every 20 minutes a parent dies leaving dependent children*. We need your support to ensure that we can be there for every local child and young person who needs us.
One runner set to run the Brighton Marathon 2024 as part of Team Jigsaw is Carrie Overton. Carrie is a local Sussex runner but hasn’t taken on a marathon distance before. We asked Carrie why she wants to run to raise awareness and funds for Jigsaw (South East) and this is what she told us.
My husband died of cancer in February 2013, when my son was only just 4. We received amazing support from Jigsaw, he still has his box with his memory jar and other things he made. It was good for me to meet other widowed parents too. I wish I had been able to access support during the terminal stage of his illness, which was so scary and bewildering, so I hope that in fundraising for Jigsaw more and more families will be able to access the support they need at such an awful time.
