Where do you hold the Jigsaw (SouthEast) Grief Support Groups?
We hold groups several times a year in Reigate, East Grinstead, Cheam and Guildford. The groups run over six weeks, usually on a Thursday evening plus one Saturday.** These are temporarily suspended due to Covid-19. For up t0 date service information click HERE.
Can you tell me a little more about the groups?
The groups run by staff and volunteers, aim to give children, young adults and their parents/careers between the ages of 5 and 18, a safe environment in which to meet others in a similar situation, as well as to provide an opportunity for sharing memories, exploring feelings and asking questions. The sessions are activity based, such as creating memory boxes, and we stress the value of taking part. Some of the activities take place in peer groups and others in family groups.
Why can’t children and young people attend on their own?
We place a lot of value on the child or children attending with an adult. The adults will be in a separate room but will do many of the same activities as the children and young people. This provides an opportunity for dialogue outside of the groups which leads to improved communication, understanding and relationships at home.
Do we need to attend all sessions?
Yes if you can, there are more likely to be positive benefits if all sessions are attended, especially the Saturday, our experience shows this to be the case when the full programme is completed.
